NOMINATED FOR AN IVOR NOVELLO COMPOSER AWARD, 2O22
ivorsacademy.com/awards/the-ivors-composer-awards/

-----------------

Sunderland’s underwater soundscapes are the springboard for 'With Ears Underwater'.

A trio of musicians used anonymised audio files to create a repertoire of sounds as the basis for collective and solo improvisation. The mystery recordings were, in fact, the sounds of marine life, freshwater invertebrates, and aquatic plants sourced from Sunderland's docklands and intertidal mudflats; the marina and estuary of the River Wear; the rock-pools of Roker and freshwater ponds found beside factories.

Their instrumental recordings flow alongside original underwater recordings, illustrating the interconnectedness of our acoustic landscape and evoking interspecies dialogue. It is a space to reimagine historically industrialised areas through the lens of aquatic ecosystems.

Mixed binaurally using Spatial Audio from Kinicho, so best listened with headphones. All files 24bit, 48kHz.

Recorded, mixed and mastered by D. de la Haye.
