Hidden Sounds (Underwater ASMR Edition)

mikehoolboom One of the very best collections of hydrophone recordings I've ever heard (I might not have caught them all, but most that are easily accessible). Here underwater life arrives in a pristine shimmer, water glistening in the backgrounds as the ticks, growls, rubs and shuffles of unseen communities gather and disperse. Delicate stereo pans, occasionally the presence of crickets or seals enliven proceedings. The artist proceeds with a rare sensitivity and a sublime touch. Favorite track: Underwater ASMR - 01.

about

EACH TRACK IS THE SOUND OF A LIVING, UNDERWATER ORGANISM. THIS EP ACCOMPANIES THE 'HIDDEN SOUNDS' COMMISSION, WHICH IS INCLUDED IN THE DOWNLOAD.

BEST EXPERIENCED WITH HEADPHONES

In times when personal connections often take place online, the concept of digital intimacy gains value. Each of these tracks is a freshwater underwater field-recording, the chance to eavesdrop on organic sounds usually outside of our perception and in some way feel a connection we might be missing.

Attentive listening whilst field recording could generate an ASMR-like reaction, a sensation that is characterised by a ‘tingling’ sensation induced by a number of external factors.

An undercurrent of production techniques that have their basis in Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) support these freshwater recordings, including close-up capture, binaural production and repetitive noises.

I'd be curious to know how/if they appeal to your senses. Let me know!
